How do you sell a used fridge, washing machine or AC locally?
Note the brand, model, capacity and age, photograph the appliance working, and price it against similar listings near you. Let the buyer see it running before anything is disconnected, then agree who dismantles and moves it: a split AC needs a technician, a front-loading washing machine needs its transit bolts refitted, and a fridge should travel upright and rest before it is switched on again.

Note what buyers ask first
Buyers compare appliances by type and capacity, so start there: litres and single or double door for a fridge; kilograms, front or top loading, and fully or semi-automatic for a washing machine; tonnage, split or window, and inverter or not for an AC. Add the brand, the model number from the rating sticker, the energy star rating, the year of purchase, and whether you have the bill and any warranty left.
Mention anything repaired or replaced, such as a compressor, a motor or a gas refill, and any fault you know of. Photograph the appliance switched on, the inside of the fridge or drum, the control panel, the rating sticker with its serial number covered, and any dent, rust or crack.
Show it working before anything is disconnected
A buyer will want to see a fridge cold in both compartments, a washing machine filling, draining and spinning, or an AC cooling with its outdoor unit running. That is far easier while the appliance is still installed, so invite serious buyers to see it in place, and agree the price before anyone disconnects it.
A large appliance usually means a buyer at your home. Share the address in chat only once a viewing is agreed, have someone else at home, and keep the visit to the room where the appliance is. Many housing societies need a gate pass or a note to security before large items leave, so check yours before collection day.
Disconnect and move it safely
Fridge: empty it, switch it off to defrost, clean and dry it, take out loose shelves and tape the doors shut. Liebherr’s guidance is to move a fridge upright where possible and, after the move, to leave it switched off for about two hours if it travelled upright, or at least 12 hours if it travelled on its side, longer for an older fridge. Tell the buyer to follow the waiting time in their model’s manual.
Washing machine: turn off the tap, disconnect and drain the hoses, and refit the transit bolts on a front loader. Samsung’s India help says to put the shipping bolts back before moving a front-load washing machine, so hand the bolts over with it, and say in the listing if you no longer have them.
AC: a split AC’s indoor and outdoor units are joined by copper pipes and wiring, so have a trained technician dismantle it rather than cutting anything. LG’s India service guide lists split AC dismantling and reinstallation at a new location as separate jobs, with installation covering pipe connection, vacuuming and testing. Agree in advance who books and pays for dismantling, and that the buyer arranges reinstallation.
Measure doorways, the lift and the stairs, and agree who arranges the tempo or mini-truck before collection day.
Price it, time the sale, and plan for a unit that does not work
Compare similar appliances near you of the same type, capacity and age; the pricing guide linked below explains how to adjust for condition. If you are buying a replacement, compare a brand or retailer exchange offer with local listings, because an exchange often pays as a discount on the new purchase rather than in cash.
If you are moving house, list the appliance two to three weeks ahead and agree a fixed collection date, so that you keep the fridge and washing machine working until your last days.
If it no longer works, say so: list it with the condition For parts and describe the fault, because technicians and repair shops buy units for parts. An appliance nobody wants belongs with the brand’s take-back service or an e-waste recycler, not with household waste.
Confirm the payment in your own banking or UPI app before the appliance leaves your home. A screenshot is not proof of payment.
